SVGR Adoption Procedure

Adopting a greyhound is an investment in friendship.

The following steps make up the typical procedure taken from start to finish, when adopting one of our hounds.

  1. Initial contact either by e-mail, telephone or in person at one of our events.
  2. A friendly chat to find out what sort of lifestyle you have, e.g. where you live, do you have a secure garden, family members at home, work commitments, other pets, especially cats! This is your chance to air your preferences (age, colour, sex of hound), and your expectations of your chosen hound. Be as honest as possible so as to give SVGR the best chance of finding the ideal match for you, your family, and our hounds.
  3. A home check will now be done by a representative of either SVGR or a reputable, rescue or charity in your area.
  4. You, your complete household and any pet dogs will now be invited to come and meet your chosen hound, a SVGR representative and/or the hounds fosterer.
  5. If all has gone well and all parties involved are happy to proceed, you are now asked to read, agree to and sign our adoption policy. It is at this stage that you are asked to make a minimum donation of £60 to SVGR to cover the veterinary expenses spent on your hound (all our hounds are neutered or spayed, vaccinated, wormed, de-flead and microchipped) this also helps towards the future rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of ex-racing greyhounds.
  6. You and your hound can now go home and look forward to the future together with the knowledge that the SVGR will always be there to offer help and support throughout your hounds life.
